Heard today at Divine Service...

A prayer in honor of Labor Day,  Collect II ("For Commerce and Industry") of Rogation Days:
Almighty God, whose Son Jesus Christ in his earthly life shared our toil and hallowed our labor: Be present with your people where they work; make those who carry on the industries and commerce of this land responsive to your will; and give to us all a pride in what we do, and a just return for our labor; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

We also had a prayer "For a Birthday," just after the Peace; this is done once monthly.  Those with birthdays in September came to the transept and stood togther as we all prayed:
Watch over your children, O Lord, as their days increase; bless and guide them wherever they may be. Strengthen them when they stand; comfort them when discouraged or sorrowful; raise them up if they fall; and in their hearts may your peace which passes understanding abide all the days of their lives; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

And this one, taken from the Book of Occasional Services' "Anniversary of a Marriage", also done once a month, to celebrate couples whose anniversaries come during September.  The couples stood in place in their seats as we all said the prayer:
Gracious God, we ask your blessing upon these your servants.  Lead them further in companionship with each other and with you.  Give them grace to live together in love and fidelity, with care for one another.  Strengthen them all their days, and finally bring them to that holy table where, with those they love, they will feast for ever in their heavenly home, through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

See how it all fits together?
